Newfoundlanders Jonathan Ladha and Daniel Inkpen, two of Canada’s elite sailors, have commenced a four year campaign to bring home a gold medal from the 2012 London Olympic Games.

These young athletes have spent much of the last 15 years competing and training in the cold, rough waters off the shores of Newfoundland. Their sailing season is shorter and harsher than that of their competitors and high level coaching is not available locally.

Despite such challenges, their results dating back to 2001 on the national and international stages have been historic for Newfoundland. Between them they have:

Most recently, in August of 2008, they placed fourth in Canada in their Olympic Class sailboat, the 49er. Achieving this result competing in a new class of boat, limited training time, and little coaching proved their capability and potential. Their dream of winning a gold medal for Newfoundland and Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics can be a reality.
