National Champs
Less than two years after beginning their Olympic campaign in November 2008, Newfoundlanders Jon Ladha and Daniel Inkpen have won the 2010 Seiko Men’s 49er Championship at the CORK regatta in Kingston, Ontario.
Following a grueling 22 race regatta over 5 days, Ladha and Inkpen defeated a field of 20 boats representing Canada, USA and Mexico and including former Canadian champions and Olympians.
Ladha and Inkpen showed great boat speed and superior tactics; following a strong start to the regatta, they needed a victory in the final race of the regatta to seal a 7 point victory over Canadian team member Gordon Cooke and a 16 point victory over former Canadian champion Billy Gooderman.
“Winning this regatta is a great feeling”, said skipper Jon Ladha, “but it is only one step as we continue in our quest to represent Canada at the 2012 Olympics in London.”
